Introduction: Stroke is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, often causing a reduction in functional capacity, and rehabilitation is an important therapeutic resource. In this context, Kinesio Taping (KT), by promoting stability, relieving pain, and facilitating movement, can be an important tool in supporting the affected area. This study aimed to map the scientific evidence on the therapeutic effects of KT in the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients.
Methodology: A scoping review was conducted based on the guidelines defined by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and guided by the research question: “What are the therapeutic effects of applying Kinesio Taping in the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients?”. The search was carried out in the B-on, Pubmed and CINAHL databases. All articles published in Portuguese, English and Russian between 2018 and 2024 that included the application of Kinesio Taping in the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients were considered.
Results: Twenty-three studies were included, which showed the application of KT to post-stroke users, with improved adherence to treatment, quality of life, and reduced hospitalisations. In addition to the direct effects on motor functionality, it provides additional benefits such as pain relief, improved local blood circulation, and reduced edema.
Conclusion: The use of Kinesio Taping in the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients seems to be recommended due to its positive effects and it should be used as an adjunct therapy.
