Introduction: The implantation of cardiac devices has allowed an increase in survival in people with heart disease, but it interferes with the ability to self-care, often due to a lack of knowledge about adaptation needs. Cardiac rehabilitation programs have health education as one of their core components. In this sense, a rehabilitation program is essential, whose educational component focuses on improving functional capacity with the promotion of independence in self-care. Therefore, the need to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program in obtaining gains in knowledge resulting from the responsibility of rehabilitation nursing in users undergoing implantation of cardiac devices.
Methodology: Exploratory study comparing knowledge about the adequate therapeutic management of the population undergoing cardiac device implantation, before and after
Results: 18 users were included, the majority of whom were male (61%) and had an average age of 73.17±9.02; 61% on an outpatient basis and the rest on an inpatient basis (39%). After the educational program there was a 30% gain in people's level of knowledge.
Discussion: A rehabilitation nursing intervention with an educational component, structured and individualized, should be part of the care of people in need of implantation of these devices, with a gain in knowledge and an apparent improvement in the capacity for therapeutic self-care. However, outpatient intervention regimes pose important challenges for the EEER response, due to the limited face-to-face contact and continuity of care, opening the possibility for the implementation of a telehealth care methodology.
Conclusion: Rehabilitation is crucial for the recovery of people with cardiac devices, as it leads to gains in knowledge with the possibility of impacting self-care capacity and should be disseminated in other contexts.
